The Miami Heat are thinking about signing veteran center Eddy Curry. Posted by Ben Golliver. eddy-curry

April Fool's Day has come and gone, so this is no joke: The Miami Heat are reportedly considering signing veteran big man Eddy Curry, a constant punchline around the league because of his weight problems, for the playoff stretch run.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Heat president Pat Riley is driving the decision to pursue Curry, who weighs at least 350 pounds.
The Miami Heat are progressing toward signing center Eddy Curry for the playoffs, front office sources told Yahoo! Sports.
After Heat president Pat Riley watched Curry work out in Chicago in recent days, he’s made plans to bring the 7-footer to Miami early next week for another workout and a medical physical with the ultimate objective to sign him, sources said.

One league source listed the probability of Miami signing Curry at “better than 50-50.” The Heat would need to cut a player for the playoffs, with rookie Dexter Pittman as a likely candidate to be waived.
The Palm Beach Post reported Riley's reaction on Saturday.
For the record, Riley said through a spokesman that he worked Curry out in Chicago with “a half-dozen other players,” that it was for “a big picture look,” and that anything else is “purely speculation.”
Curry began the season on the Knicks but was dumped on the Minnesota Timberwolves to help facilitate the trade that brought Carmelo Anthony to New York. He was then bought out of the remainder of his contract by the Timberwolves. He hasn't appeared in a single game this season and has played just 10 games combined since the beginning of the 2008-2009 season.

No question: the Heat are that desperate. They've struggled to get meaningful contributions from their aging front line all season and they recently received word that forward Udonis Haslem was still possibly a month away from returning from injury.

Going super small and playing Chris Bosh at the center spot and LeBron James at the power forward works against weaker teams during the regular season, but it's not a viable playoff strategy. The Heat need a space eater and Curry is adept at devouring things.

If you're looking for a reason to sell stock in the Miami Heat's playoff chances, this is a good one.

Heres when the Knicks were great...

The New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls of the 90's were a classic, yet one-sided rivalry, in which the Chicago Bulls bullied their kid brother Knicks.
Going into the 92-93 season however, while the Bulls had won the previous three playoff series against the Knicks, but New York had reason to believe...

I reallly don't get the ignorance of some of these heat-haterz. Do you see the team heat has? They don't need much scorers. Dampier, Howard, Pittman, Magloire, and Z serve their purpose when they get in the game. The scoring big is for the stars. Eddie Curry has a significant role as a big body in the system not as a scorer. Never been since I known um. This is huge for the heat system if it happens.

I really can't believe how clueless some of you Heat fans are. You do realize that Curry is considered by many to be the WORST rebounder of any big man in the league. For his career, he has averaged 5 rebounds.. 5!!  How exactly is he going to help a team with rebounding?? You also realize that he is 100 lbs overweight??

I agree. If he's in the NBA then there's a reason. If you're in the doghouse for one team like he was with the Knicks who like to run up and down the court, a slow 300 plus pound center is not a priority. But, with a Heat team who struggles to grab rebounds in the half court, Eddy Curry can be helpful. If he can Help the Heat win an NBA title, so be it.

What are you talking about Eddy Curry could play ball if he was giving a shot...the knicks totally threw him in the doghouse after isiah left.  If im not mistaken, two or one of his children and childrens mother were shot to death in chicago.  The nerve of you brother, hard work and potential gets you to the league.  Did your son make it?

"The Heat need a space eater and Curry is adept at devouring things" LMAO. Nice line by Ben Golliver, If Pat Riley signs Curry it iwould be time for Riley to quit because he has clearly lost his mind. A 350lb Curry can help the Heat? Can't wait to see the Heat go down in the playoffs with or without Curry.

I saw Eddy play in high school against one of my sons high school teams, and Eddy was a big stiff then like he is now.  He is living proof that being tall doesn't mean you can play basketball...

its amazing to me that after all the money that this guy has basically stolen in his career there are still teams willing to throw more at this bum. this is just another example of how careless the owners are with the fans money.

I thought that the Bulls might consider signing Curry. I think if he went to Chicago with a solid leader like Derrick Rose around he might get in shape and turn out to be the big time player we all thought he would be five years ago. I think if he goes to Miami, there might not be the type of leader there to influence him enough to step his game up to help them in the playoffs. Even so I think he would be a decent pickup for the team if they face the Celtics but I don't think he would help much with the Bulls
