Is Carmelo Anthony on the trade block?

With all this talk of a Carmelo Anthony extension, could it be that the two sides are so far apart they're considering a trade?

Hey, sure, we've speculated on every other major player in the NBA getting traded, let's not leave 'Melo out!

The Denver Post reports that the Denver Nuggets may be willing to consider trading Anthony if the team cannot reach an agreement on an extension with him. The report states that there is a three year, $65 million contract extension on the table, but that if Anthony rejects it, the Nuggets refuse to find themselves in the same position as the Heat and Cavaliers, desperately trying to clear space in order to woo Anthony back home, or the Raptors, simply accepting that their franchise player is gone.

So just to recap, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Amar'e Stoudemire are all free agents (most likely) considering new teams, and Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul are being considered for trades . We're realistically looking at the possibility of a completely different NBA landscape in the next 12 months, and that's before we look at the probable lock-out in 2011-2012.

Crazy times in the NBA.

Is Carmelo Anthony on the trade block?

Carmelo in decline???  Man that is tough.  So much of a decline the extension is a 17Mil per year offer.  Carmelo is going to get a ring.  Denver better pony up if they want one too.

Until the James deal is decided, I doubt anyone of any significance is going make a move.  I don't see a down side to Carmelo holding out.   17 Mil is a lot of money.  I guess that depends how much money James is able to demand.  When a player like James goes to another team, teams like the Cavs are going to offer up big money for a replacement.  The NY comment is interesting.  The Nicks have the money to bring a Anthony in.

Next  year Anthony will be allowed to opt out of his contract and become a free agent.  He very well may not take the 17 Mil and force Denver to either offer more money or force a trade.   IMO if Denver does nothing, Denver loses Anthony next year.

Denver is on the decline and they know Mello wants out. They just wanna get something in return instead of him just being a free agent next year.

I can see Carmelo with the Knicks. I think if he becomes a free agent, the Knicks will make a huge play for him.
